| I am 10 rhythms into what I hope will be 20 rhythms I want to compose that
will tell the story of part of my Adirondack Experience in percussion.
I've been able to record some of my tunes, others are in the works, when they are ready I will post them here. I've listed the tunes in the order I like to play them. I've begun a series of rehearsals for "Into the Adirondacks" a percussive art performance piece. For my first rehearsal I had 13 reservations and I offered a nice dessert reception. I will be having two more rehearsals and then a performance in late July in the Gallery. I'm back in the recording studio, learning more about mixing. I just uploaded "Journey up Gill Brook to Indian Head" and I hope to finish with the rest in a short time. Granite in Indian Pass - This rhythm was inspired by the huge boulders and granite wallfaces that are part of Indian Pass. Played on Congas. I Just Love Fruit - I was sitting on my deck watching the birds in the apple tree when I started this rhythm: In the mp3 that I have here I have dubbed in shakeries and an udu. Played on small ashiko. Blueberry Picking on Jay Mountain - This is a poetry piece with an under lying rhythm going on. As soon as I get the time I would like to get this one up here along with a video. Yamama - This is an old classic from the Mountain Drum days, I've always liked this driving beat and fast paced tempo. I've incorporated several of the original parts and created a new one to throw into the rhythm. Marcy Field - I took my drums out to the middle of Marcy Field in Keene Valley and developed the idea for this rhythm there and refined it in the studio. Played on small ashiko. Journey up Gill Brook to Indian Head - I've been here many times, meditating at all the waterfalls, drawing them and mindfully walking onto the next one. I wanted to capture the wonderfully subtle changes in the sounds of one little waterfall to the next. Then everything changes as you climb up to Indian Head outlook. Into The Adirondacks - Here's one with a poem and a catchy rhythm, I'm still trying to extend the rhythm on this one. Night Sounds - One summer night I was listening to the owls and there you are. Played on the congas. Night Sky - I'm still working on making a nice mp3 of this and when I do it will be posted here. A fast paced rhythm with surprises. The night sky is busy, so much going on and this rhythm is my percussion translation of that. Played on Djembe. Jay Mountain Views - I'm still working on making a nice mp3 of this and when I do it will be posted here. |
